5 CH short films loosly connected to the topic of irritations

What is irritating you? What about a simple gaze – that is simply out of place? Or the “not-yet”/”quite-often”/”almost-never” of belonging that some are likely to be confronted with? Situations turned inside out, outplaced, or irritating encounters on the screen?

On Wednesday 30. April we are screening 5 wonderful short films at Kino Reitschule: OURS by Morgane Frund, Vice Versa by Keerthigan Sivakumar, BLOC B by Nora Longatti, Ausser Sicht by Jacqueline Wüst, Unser Name ist Ausländer by Selin Besili.

🔭 OURS (by Morgane Frund, CH 2022, 20 min)
An amateur filmmaker who has filmed bears for years contacts a film school looking for someone to edit his images into a film. A student comes forward. But when she digitises his archive, she discovers that the recordings are not only of bears. A discussion ensues about the power of a gaze and its voyeuristic violence.

🗣️ Vice Versa (by Keerthigan Sivakumar, CH 2022, 8 min)
A familiar situation for many but, with a slight twist. Vice Versa was made to mark the 25th anniversary of Appartenances Community Interpreting Service in Lausanne.

🏙️ BLOC B (by Nora Longatti, CH 2019, 11 min)
How does it feel to be alive? Bloc B. That’s the setting where nine encounters happen, somewhere in the satellite city «la Bourdonnette», in the outskirts of Lausanne. Bloc B was written for some of their residents and the neighborhood. In order to know what it feels like to be alive.

🛣️ Ausser Sicht (by Jacqueline Wüst, CH 2017, 14 min)
Between industry, the highway, and the red-light district, various groups of people have settled: Jenish families, rejected asylum seekers, and residents of two trailer parks. A colorful microcosm has developed far from the public eye.

🛋️ Unser Name ist Ausländer (by Selin Besili, CH 2024, 21 min)
Hêlîn, Selin, Firat and Serhat are siblings who grew up in a village in central Switzerland. They carry their family living-room out into public space: first the colourful carpet, then the couch, last of all the hot Çay. A new story takes shape where anger and resilience find their place unfazed alongside othering and fear.⁩
